Hubungan Tingkat Stres dengan Kualitas Tidur Caregiver Informal yang Merawat Anak Berkebutuhan Khusus di Panti Asuhan Bhakti Luhur Malang

Abstract

Background: Informal caregivers who care for children with special needs (CSN) face physical and psychological caregiving burdens that may contribute to stress and reduced sleep quality. Objective: To analyze the relationship between stress levels and sleep quality among informal caregivers caring for children with special needs at Bhakti Luhur Orphanage, Malang. Methods: This study used a quantitative cross-sectional design. The population consisted of 167 informal caregivers, with a sample of 119 respondents determined using the Slovin formula and stratified random sampling technique. Stress levels were measured using the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10), while sleep quality was measured using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Data were analyzed using the Spearman Rho correlation test. Results: Analysis of 119 respondents showed a correlation coefficient (r) of 0.458 with a p-value of 0.000 (p<0.05), indicating a significant relationship between stress levels and sleep quality. Conclusion: Stress levels are associated with the sleep quality of informal caregivers caring for children with special needs. Prolonged caregiving burdens, 24-hour caregiving, managing challenging behaviors, and limited rest time may contribute to stress and sleep disturbances.  Discussion: The higher the stress level, the greater the likelihood that caregivers experience poor sleep quality. Stress management and improving sleep quality are necessary to maintain caregivers' well-being and optimize their role in providing care for children with special needs.
